County Council Elections
In Indiana, Primary Elections are held in even-numbered years on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in May. General Elections are held in even-numbered years on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
You may vote absentee in-person starting 28 days before an election at the Madison County Government Center (“The Courthouse”) during regular business hours.
The county council is the fiscal body of county government and is made up of seven members — four district and three at-large members. The term of each county council member is four years. There are no term limits on county council members. Members may be elected to multiple consecutive terms.
District Seats
The four district seats on the county council represent four distinct areas of Madison County. Elections for these seats are held in mid-term election years. For example, year 2022, 2026, 2030, and so on.
- District 1 — northern Madison County, including Elwood, Alexandria, Summitville, Orestes, and parts of Frankton and Chesterfield
- District 2 — north Anderson and parts of Frankton and Chesterfield
- District 3 — central and south Anderson
- District 4 — southern Madison County, including Pendleton, Lapel, Markleville, and parts of Anderson
At-Large Seats
The three at-large seats on the county council represent all of Madison County. Elections for these seats are held in presidential election years. For example, year 2024, 2028, 2032, and so on.
City & Town Elections
Indiana cities and towns hold their municipal elections in odd-numbered years preceding a presidential election year. For example, year 2023, 2027, 2031, and so forth.
