For more than a year, I regularly attended meetings of our county council as it met to discuss and vote on matters that directly affect our family’s finances. I witnessed how our elected officials often ignore our concerns as taxpayers. Too easily, they break their campaign promises to conduct themselves as fiscal conservatives.
In the middle of soaring inflation and rising food, fuel, and energy costs, some council members actually voted to raise taxes with a budget surplus of $12.7 million. Our current level of tax-and-spend at the county is unacceptable. Unless we hold our elected officials accountable to work within their budgets, they’ll continue to spend our tax dollars recklessly.
Too many of our council members forgot what it’s like to raise a family. My husband and I stretch every hard-earned dollar as far as it will go to raise our two boys. Like you, we live in the northern part of Madison County. The taxes that our current councilman supports – my young sons will still be paying for as adults. When elected, I will bring accountability, transparency, professionalism, and respect for taxpayers to the Madison County Council.
