For many of us in Madison County, our largest investment is purchasing our home. Our local government should consider the adverse effects their decisions can have on our home values.
I have spoken to members of our community who are facing threats to their property values through:
- Proposed solar energy centers
- Lack of zoning law enforcement
- Lack of updated infrastructure
I will address these issues by:
- advocating for a property value guarantee in the county’s solar ordinance
- holding officeholders and the plan commission accountable for enforcing zoning violations
- suggesting that federal ARP funds be used towards long-term infrastructure improvements
In 2019, the county council attempted to pass a tax abatement incentivizing a project that would worsen the values of 200 neighboring properties by an estimated 40%. I personally spoke out against the tax abatement, because I believe the needs of families come before corporations. At no time will I support similar tax abatements. I will continue to watch over the county’s finances and ask questions of our local government leaders.
